| The
waters of Alaska’s Nushagak River are truly exceptional
as they fill each June with Chinook salmon. Unlike any river anywhere, when these fish
show it’s a free-for-all with double-digit catches most
days through the month of June and first few weeks of July.
“Hard-fighting” is an understatement
of these salmon’s power. They grab bait or plugs with
complete abandon and test our premium gear every day of the
season. Magazine articles by the volumes, TV shows and Internet
chat all confirm the fact that this is the place to be for
these tenacious salmon.
The
“Nush” also plays host to staggering runs of chum,
sockeye and silvers. Chum salmon start to show by mid-June
and are everywhere by the end of the month right along with
the river’s tasty sockeye. By July it’s a free-for-all
with Kings, chum and sockeye all in the river. Nushagak chum
maintain their bright shine well upriver of camp and are suckers
for jigs, flies and a variety of lures. If you’ve caught
chum salmon in the lower 48 you’ll be awe-struck by
the quality and fight of Nushagak chum.
Bear Bay Lodge offers the quintessential salmon camp on the
“Nush”. Like other area camps, you’ll sleep
in deluxe tents with wood floors and heaters, hot showers
take the edge off a long day of fishing, all meals are provided
and outstanding, your gear’s included right along with
complete preparation of your salmon for the trip home.
